Every nine minutes, a child or adult dies from leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma.
Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma are cancers that originate in the bone marrow (in the case of leukemia and myeloma) or in lymphatic tissues (in the case of lymphoma).  They  are considered to be related cancers because they involve the uncontrolled growth of cells with similar functions and origins. The diseases result from an acquired (not inherited) genetic injury to the DNA of a single cell, which becomes abnormal (malignant) and multiplies continuously. The accumulation of malignant cells interferes with the body's production of healthy blood cells and makes the body unable to protect itself against infections.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the fastest-growing voluntary health organization with a nationwide presence. The Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since its founding in 1949, the Society has provided more than $240 million for research specifically targeting blood-related cancers.
Team In Training® (TNT), part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, is the world's largest endurance sports training program, Founded to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission through fundraising, TNT combines: The Chicago '03 Team Returns

  • A connection with a local honored patient who will inspire you as you train and fundraise.

In exchange for training and support, you help raise money towards cures for blood cancers like leukemia - the leading disease killer of children - lymphoma and myeloma.

The TNT program started in New York in 1986 when Lucy Duffy, a participant in the New York City Marathon, passed out pledge forms to solicit donations for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for each mile she completed in the 26.2 mile course. Mrs. Duffy raised $30,000 for the Society. Sadly, her husband lost his life to leukemia two months later. TNT continued to grow in strength. In 1988 Bruce Cleland, a volunteer in the Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter, whose daughter was stricken with acute lymphocytic leukemia, developed a team, and incorporated a training and a fundraising approach with the campaign. Bruce and his teammates completed the 1988 New York City Marathon, raising $320,000 for the Society. Team in Training is the original charitable fundraising marathon program.

Join the more than 30,000 runners, walkers, cyclists and triathletes who will participate in the world's major marathons, triathlons and century rides this year on behalf of the Society.
