Here To See Some of the 2004 Maui team in action
After my mom passed away in
1991, I tried to find ways that I could give back to the
community. Shelton is a small town and I was working
in radio doing a lot of community announcements and that
sort of thing so I felt like I was giving back. After
I moved to Seattle in 1996, I found every excuse not to do
anything. I was too busy with work, I went back to
grad school, I have a new baby, then a new job. You know the
deal. Excuses for excuses. Then a friend called
and asked if she could ride in honor of my mom as part of
the Leukemia Society's Team in Training program. I
thought that was awesome. |
The donation we wrote to
Diane was a check written by my wife Tina, so Tina's name
was added to the TNT list of potential donors, you give
once, they'll try again. Then one came to our
house and was sitting on the counter and I opened it up.
I decided I was going to do something. God puts things
in our way because sometimes we have trouble with that
"obedience" piece. I went to a meeting and signed up
for the Seafair Triathlon. I got started right away
swimming on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, biking on the
weekends and not running even to get a soda from the fridge.

After the Team in Training kick off party I was rolling.
I got my letter written and I was ready to mail it to over
100 people, which I did, and those people were incredible.
The fundraising goal for Seafair was $2,400. I had
that in about three weeks, so I decided, "what the heck,
let's go for Chicago." So my fundraising goal
increased to $4,200. |

And you know what, people
are awesome and God rocks! That money came in and
I ended up raising over $5,700 for Leukemia and Lymphoma
research. |
So, now I'm ready to get rolling again. This time as a
mentor for the June 13, 2004 Maui Triathlon. |
